When I was in elementary school, I made it my life dream to become a teacher for the Peace Corp, combining my love for children, teaching and outreach into one career! God had other plans for me, and led me to a teaching degree, ordination and a church filled with the most outreach-driven people ever!
Not only do I get to pastor an amazing church, I also get to work with my favorite musician and worship with my favorite children and grandchildren! (All of them)
I never made it into the Peace Corp., but our God is amazing and I give thanks every day for the Spirit of the Lord that leads me and moves me in directions that enrich my soul!
Volunteer Minister
Rev. Don Kelgard
Don Kelgard is part of the Disciples of Christ commissioning program and was called as our volunteer minister in 2019. Don has always had a passion for serving others, both within the church and outside the community, and has been actively involved as an elder, in men's ministry, working with Juliette Fowler, and the Gideons.
We are so thankful to have him with us! Before commissioning minister training, Don has been a long-time member of FCC Rowlett - worshiping with his family: wife, Kim; daughter, Ashley; and son, Tyler.
I grew up in the loving graces of the First Assembly of God Church in Lavon, which was planted by my uncle Bruce. I've been blessed to have been fully aware of God's presence in my life from an early age. He has filled me with tools that I try to use as best as I can to help open others to His promises. You will occasionally find me singing with the band, but you will ALWAYS hear me singing from the congregation...sometimes on key, and more frequently out of rhythm!!! The most precious talent that I have been blessed with is the love of teaching. From my childhood, I've always wanted to teach, and that blessing has been realized with nearly two decades as a middle school and high school teacher and coach. I have taught courses in all disciplines of social studies, including world religions, and have coached just about every sport imaginable. I left the classroom 4 years ago, and am now serving as a middle school Principal in Rockwall ISD.
My wife Krista and I, have been blessed to raise our six daughters who have become such amazing young women. Our three youngest, Taylor, Abbey, and Britany have all been baptized and raised up by FCC Rowlett during our almost 20 years of calling this church home. I am incredibly excited to be able to lend my talents to the youth of this church family. I recognize that they are the foundation on which this 133 year old church's future depends upon. I hope to help empower them to have a voice that reaches beyond our church walls.
Music Director
Dana Dotson
I have been blessed to have a musical career that began at the age of 10 and continues still today! It is a joy to lead the music for this incredible church and use the talents and gifts of the church community in worship.
I also am blessed to sing with and worship alongside my favorite children and grandchildren and my favorite pastor!
