When I was in elementary school, I made it my life dream to become a teacher for the Peace Corp, combining my love for children, teaching and outreach into one career! God had other plans for me, and led me to a teaching degree, ordination and a church filled with the most outreach-driven people ever!
Not only do I get to pastor an amazing church, I also get to work with my favorite musician and worship with my favorite children and grandchildren! (All of them)
I never made it into the Peace Corp., but our God is amazing and I give thanks every day for the Spirit of the Lord that leads me and moves me in directions that enrich my soul!
Reverend Antonio Reed is a native of Texas and lives in Grand Prairie, Texas. As a native, he is no stranger to the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area or the cozier, outlying communities that truly define Texas’s heart and potential. Rev. Reed’s ministerial journey began in response to his relationship with Jesus. As a teenager, he honored that relationship by serving in several youth ministries at First Saint John Baptist Church in Fort Worth, before accepting his call to preach the gospel in 1998 at age 15. Reverend Reed got ordained in 2007 at Good Shepherd Family Worship Center.
On his vocational track, Rev. Reed attended Texas Tech, majoring in Communication Studies, emphasizing Public Affairs. He graduated in 2016. While a student, Rev. Reed served Good Shepherd Family Worship Center as pastor of College Ministries. He has also served, for many years, as the young adult minister at True Vine Baptist Church in the rose capital of Tyler, Texas, where the majority of his family resides. In addition, Reverend Reed served as the Assistant Pastor and Pastor of Worship, Discipleship and Justice at First Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas for five years. As an advocate for social justice, Rev. Reed has been and continues to be a part of many coalitions, orders, and agencies that aid in shaping who he is and his radically inclusive vision for the church and the world.
He is currently the Director of Family Ministries at First Christian Church in Rowlett, Texas. He is completing his master’s degree from Brite Divinity School with a Master of Divinity, emphasizing African Traditions and Black Church Studies. He is eager to see where the Lord will lead him. Yet, he is confident that social justice and advocacy will be central to the fleshing out of his calling as he continues to converse with every generation through a radical gospel message set upon justice, inclusivity, and the unwavering love of God.
