When I was in elementary school, I made it my life dream to become a teacher for the Peace Corp, combining my love for children, teaching and outreach into one career! God had other plans for me, and led me to a teaching degree, ordination and a church filled with the most outreach-driven people ever!
Not only do I get to pastor an amazing church, I also get to work with my favorite musician and worship with my favorite children and grandchildren! (All of them)
I never made it into the Peace Corp., but our God is amazing and I give thanks every day for the Spirit of the Lord that leads me and moves me in directions that enrich my soul!
Hi! I'm Chris and my full time job is with Operation BBQ Relief as their Head of Logistics and Procurement- where I get to combine my love for people, purpose, and—of course—BBQ. I’ve been married to my incredible wife, Erika, for 19 wonderful years. We share our home with our quirky fur-kids: Moondoggie, Barney, and Mr. Meowgi—with a foster Great Dane named Maverick joining the pack soon!
I’m a proud uncle and godparent, and I absolutely adore spending time with our nieces, nephews, and godchildren. A few things that bring me joy: firing up the grill, cheering on my beloved Texas A&M Aggies, jamming to Taylor Swift (yes, I’m a proud Swiftie), celebrating Halloween, eating all the pickles, and visiting my favorite place—New York City.
My faith journey began at First United Methodist Church in Franklin, TX, and I had the honor of serving as the youth minister right here at FCC Rowlett from 2009 to 2015. I have a deep love for Disciples Crossing camps and unforgettable mission trips that helped shape my heart for service.
At the end of the day, I strive to live out Micah 6:8: "To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God." Helping others is not just a calling—it’s who I am.
Volunteer Minister
Rev. Don Kelgard
Don Kelgard is part of the Disciples of Christ commissioning program and was called as our volunteer minister in 2019. Don has always had a passion for serving others, both within the church and outside the community, and has been actively involved as an elder, in men's ministry, working with Juliette Fowler, and the Gideons. We are so thankful to have him with us! Before commissioning minister training, Don has been a long-time member of FCC Rowlett - worshiping with his family: wife, Kim; daughter, Ashley; and son, Tyler.
Music Director
Dana Dotson
I have been blessed to have a musical career that began at the age of 10 and continues still today! It is a joy to lead the music for this incredible church and use the talents and gifts of the church community in worship.
I also am blessed to sing with and worship alongside my favorite children and grandchildren and my favorite pastor!
Erika Huggins has been a dedicated member of the FCC Rowlett team since 2010.
